Announced, not yet law
The figures below are the measures announced in the Budget speech on 6 October 2026. They become law only when the Finance Bill is passed later in the year, and details can change in the meantime. The income tax, USC and credit changes take effect on 1 January 2027, so your current payslip is unaffected — every other calculator on this site still shows 2026 rates.
What Changed
Budget 2027 delivered a personal tax package of roughly €1.3 billion within a total package of €8.5 billion. Minister for Finance Simon Harris framed it as “making work pay”, and the shape of it bears that out: the standard rate band widens by €2,500 so that less income is caught at 40%, and the three main credits each rise by €125.
Income Tax Band
From 1 Jan 2027The standard rate cut-off rises €2,500 to €46,500 for a single person, and to €55,500 for a married couple with one income. The 20% and 40% rates themselves are unchanged.
Tax Credits
From 1 Jan 2027The Personal, PAYE and Earned Income credits each rise €125 to €2,125. The Home Carer credit rises €100 to €2,050.
USC
From 1 Jan 2027Rates are unchanged at 0.5%, 2%, 3% and 8%. The 2% band ceiling rises from €28,700 to €30,300, which keeps more income out of the 3% band.
Capital Gains Tax
From 7 Oct 2026The standard rate is cut from 33% to 31%. This one is already in force — it applies to disposals made on or after 7 October 2026, not from January.
Rent Tax Credit
From 1 Jan 2027Rises €150 to €1,150 for a single renter, and to €2,300 for a jointly assessed couple. Rent-a-room relief rises to €16,000.
PRSI — unchanged by this Budget
Already lawBudget 2027 did not touch PRSI. The rise to 4.35% on 1 October 2026 and the further rise to 4.50% on 1 October 2027 were both already legislated.
